Bringing a Sprint Non-Contract Phone to Virgin Mobile

I have a Galaxy S5 that I just purchased new.  It's Sprint branded, has a SIM card but has never been activated (new).

I've been a VM customer for over 4 years on their Data Done Right plan and have been very satisfied.

Can I use this new phone on Virgin Mobile?

HI.

Not at this time. The device will not work properly as VM and Sprint are 2 different network/cellular  companies.

But isn't VM simply a Sprint provider using the same network?

They use the same network different servers. VM operates on its own servers.
