The Sammies: Your SD Card Has No Class!

What's up Community!  In my Sprint past, I did tech support.  Daily I would get calls about "Why is my phone so hot" and "Why did I lose all the data on my SD card".  Simple answer:  Check your SD card!

I was that dude who got my first SD card and then took that card and put it in my new phone and the next new phone and the next.  Here is the problem, my first SD card was a class 2 and my current phone writes at the speed of class 10.  What happens is the phone is writing faster than the card can accept and you would see overheating and/or data corruption.

Here, The Sammies shed some light on SD Classes only in a way The Sammies no how:

The SD Association defines the class or "Speed Class" as follows:

Class 2 (minimum write speed of 2MB/s)

Class 4 (4MB/s)

Class 6 (6MB/s)

Class 10 (10MB/s).

It is important to note that these are the minimum write speeds, so it’s entirely possible a card can achieve faster speeds.  So, if you are still using the same SD card from several years back, you may want to check the class.  It will save you a lot of headaches.
