trying to activate unlocked android UMIDIGI F1

hi, I'm trying to swap the SIM card from my wife's iphone 6 (which currently has active service with Virgin Mobile USA) into a brand new unlocked UMIDIGI F1 (all bands North America supported) that I just purchased from Amazon.

however, simply swapping the SIM card results in the phone connecting to Sprint (both 2G and 4G) but trying to make any call goes to a SPRINT (not virgin) operator automated menu for purchasing minutes.

I tried activating the phone by calling a representative, but they said they could not accept the IMEI and that they could not override the system. then my call was disconnected.

if any Social Care agents are listening, please hope me?

thank you!!
