Let's jump right into the “actual factuals” What’s the difference between the three?
International calling covers calls made from the US to various other countries. For example, if you live in the US and you have relatives in Mexico or Canada that you speak to regularly, you're in luck because the Inner Circle supports international calling! You can easily add international calling packages to your account.
International Roaming refers to the continued data service you get when you go outside of your mobile service provider's US coverage area. Virgin Mobile currently does not have International roaming services. However, switch on Wi-Fi on your device and you can get your data and texts while you are abroad. In addition you can have your device Unlocked for International usage, this allows you to purchase a SIM card in the country you travel into, for voice service in that country.
Domestic Roaming allows Inner Circle members to enjoy 800 domestic voice roaming minutes and 100MB of data roaming. However, you may notice that your data speeds slow down significantly when you are roaming off the Virgin Mobile network.
Just to be clear, if I travel to Europe and am at a location with wi-fi, like my hotel, I can send and receive data/texts WITHOUT changing plans or purchasing anything additional? I'm not interested in voice, just data/text.
Hey there. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use the service abroad. Now, if you are an Inner Circle customer you have the option to unlock your device so you can use a SIM card from an international carrier. Please click here for information on international unlocking.
No international data is pretty bad for $50 compared to unlimited T-Mobile at $40 per line which includes free 2G-speed worldwide.
So no international data even willing to pay for it? Any plans to have this in the future? Otherwise it's useless for travellers (which I guess Virgin would prioritize given the 2x1 on Inner Circle from US to UK and so many hotel promotions)
No word on this yet, @tomas, but stay tuned to our site for updates on this.
Hey there, Im headed to Lagos, Nigeria in two months. I need to know if there is a certain proceedure to use my cell phone there, what are the fees, and How do I make calls to Lagos from Missouri now and what will the fees be per minute? The international plus plan does not work beyond $10.00. It only allowed a five minute call.
I am looking for any and all information please.
Hey there, Vkoolade! We’d be happy to help, but we could use more info. Can you private message us the details so we can work through this.
I don't understand.
I know that WiFi will allow you to use Whatsapp and do other stuff.
In Europe or Nigeria they use GSM.
Virgin is not GSM.
Is there a phone I can buy from Virgin that will work on GSM?
I think Virgin is CDMA or something.
If you buy an iPhone from Virgin Mobile it can be unlocked to work outside the US after 14 days.
Android phones that have GSM capabilities are unlocked after 12 months of service.
Virgin Mobile is CDMA as is Verizon. AT&T and TMobile are GSM.
I need to buy the most expensive phone.
Got it. iPhone or Special Edition Android.
