Invalid SIM: troubleshooting isn't working

I have an iphone SE and out of the blue (no water spills, nothing unusual) "invalid sim" has appeared. I have tried all the listed suggestions: rebooted, pulled out sim card, reset carrier settings, reset network settings. After one of the reset attempts, service came back for about 1 minute but then went back to saying invalid sim. Help please!

I just reset the phone to factory settings and again, service came back for about 45 seconds but then went back to "Sim failure"
