I talked to apple about the "cellular update failed". They showed me this: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone-7-no-service/
I guess some iPhone 7's have that problem. They took my phone and fixed it for free.

Don't let me take my paid off phone to another carrier but also make sure your service doesn't work. It actually should be illegal!

Apple will fix it for free. If there is an Apple Store nearby you can take it there, if not you can send it in. I just took mine in. It costs nothing, but you will be without that phone for a week. Apple gives you a loaner phone if you come into the store, but getting that activated with Virgin has been my hang up, perhaps it will go better for you.
